Tom Einstein's Reunion Report
2011 Harrogate
Dear Old Ks
May we thank all those who attended our 2011 Reunion in Harrogate especially our surprise guests Roger Hansell and his sister Patricia who joined us from Canada.
We believe it was a great weekend and we were fortunate that the weather held good particularly for our guided tour around Harrogate.
We thank Malcolm for having organised our walking tour round the famous spa town and may I say what a charming and very knowledgeable guide we had. It was interesting what one can learn on such a tour, as it was explained to us that it was to the tranquil haven of the Swan Hotel that Agatha Christie famously disappeared in 1926. One or two of our group dared to try the spa water at the pump room and we are still waiting to hear of any transformations! At the end of the tour we had lunch at Weatherspoon's Pub and Restaurant which was the former Royal Baths and still retains its old world character.
The general feeling was that we had chosen a good hotel with comfortable rooms and plenty of parking. We were delighted that so many old Ks made the effort of arriving on Friday afternoon in time for tea. We are going to suggest that for the next reunion we have a special room set aside to be able to have an afternoon welcome of tea and cakes.
The highlight for all of us was the main event on Saturday evening. What made it so enjoyable was that the hotel gave us sole use of one of their entertaining rooms which was also made available to us on the Friday night. We hope this will be the format for future Reunions. We would like to offer our appreciation to Malcolm who once again gave us a most entertaining speech.
Our thanks go to Graham Frost for all his time and effort with emails and his general planning which turned out to be so successful.
In the Autumn we shall be seeking our next venue for our Reunion in 2013, and hopefully we shall attract even more Old Ks.
Finally there were a few Old Ks who could not come to Harrogate due to ill health. May we take this opportunity of wishing those a speedy recovery and hopefully we shall have the pleasure of seeing you when we meet again.
